Private Garden Amsterdam

A family of five wished for a design for a natural-looking garden with a hint of France to come home to and to relax and socialize in. The paving for the terrace was bought and the beautiful fences were already on site, as were a couple of trees and a trampoline for the children. They love to play table tennis together which meant I had to consider an area for the portable table to fit.

I designed a plant driven garden with a mix of ornamental grasses, hardy perennials and shrubs with an all year round interest. Raised borders were made to create different zones and give a feeling of movement and enclosure by see through planting. Curving path’s and a mix of materials where used to connect the different areas and pull the scheme together. I used the dark netting of the trampoline as a background for the plants and as a result the kids can do their jumps surrounded by them. The multifunctional area for the table tennis table can also be used for other purposes like seating. For extra privacy and shade a beautiful tree in a large copper planter was added which bark resembles the colour of the outdoor stove and is therefore an extra element that links the design.
